Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is developing a new 10-year strategic plan to guide its work from 2026 to 2036. CPW is working in close collaboration with consultants to gather input from staff, stakeholders, partners and the public.

Why a new Strategic Plan?

CPW's current Strategic Plan was adopted in 2015. While this plan has guided our efforts well since then, it's no surprise that the world around us has changed significantly in 10 years. CPW’s 2026 Strategic Plan will serve as a roadmap to address current and future challenges and opportunities, enhance our service to the public, and strengthen our commitment to stewardship of parks and wildlife resources balanced with outdoor recreation opportunities.

Who is involved in developing the Strategic Plan?

This collaborative effort is being led by CPW with input from internal leaders and staff, the Parks and Wildlife Commission, partners, and the public. The key consultants supporting the development of the Strategic Plan are Prosono and The Equity Project.

What is happening now?

CPW is currently in the engagement phase of the process, collecting input to help shape the future of Colorado’s wildlife, parks, and outdoor recreation opportunities. The feedback from recent public engagement efforts as well as internal engagement efforts are currently being analyzed to help create a roadmap that addresses current and future challenges and opportunities, enhances our service to the public, and strengthens our commitment to stewardship of parks and wildlife resources balanced with outdoor recreation opportunities. Approval of the new strategic plan by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission is anticipated in May 2026.
