Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is developing a new 10-year Strategic Plan to guide and focus its efforts in reaching the agency’s mission from 2026-2036, building on the successes of the prior Strategic Plan from 2015.
Why a new Strategic Plan?
CPW's current Strategic Plan was adopted in 2015. While this plan has guided our efforts well since then, it's no surprise that the world around us has changed significantly in 10 years. CPW’s 2026 Strategic Plan will serve as a roadmap to address current and future challenges and opportunities, enhance our service to the public, and strengthen our commitment to stewardship of parks and wildlife resources balanced with outdoor recreation opportunities.
Who is involved in developing the Strategic Plan?
This collaborative effort is being led by CPW with input from internal leaders and staff, the Parks and Wildlife Commission, partners, and the public.
What is happening now?
CPW is currently in the plan development and refinement phase of the process. The draft plan will be presented to the Parks and Wildlife Commission in March 2026. Approval of the new strategic plan by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission is anticipated in May 2026.
